Every year, in the United States, millions of people have New Year’s resolutions and many of them are fitness or nutrition oriented. Sadly, most of these people don’t stick with it and things go back to the way they were before within the first month.
Here are a couple ways to help you stick to your goals:
- Have realistic goals: Many people don’t stick with their goals because they don’t have realistic ones. For example, if my max snatch was 185 pounds and my New Year’s resolution was to snatch 550 pounds. That is not very realistic, at least not within a year. I’m not trying to crush your dreams and tell you to not shoot for the stars, however achieving smaller goals will help get you to your big goal. Conquering smaller goals keeps you motivated to not quit because your goals don’t seem like they’re so far away. Have a plan of attack and go for it!
- Have a friend: Having a friend with similar goals can always help you stay at it. Especially if you and your friend have the same goal. If they don’t, even telling someone your goals can keep you accountable to sticking with them. Find a coach or a friend and tell them your goals and they will help you achieve them.
- Write it down and make it visible so everyday you can see it: Just like telling a friend, being able to read your goal every day makes you accountable for it. Don’t let small things or excuses get in your way and have the confidence to get there.
I hope these steps help you achieve your goals. If you have any fitness goals don’t hesitate to talk to a coach, we are more than happy to help you find a way to get you to your goals!
