What is DNS?

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
Rehabilitation Prague School

As some of you might know last week I was in Austin, TX participating in a DNS Exercise Course, what had originally brought my attention to this course was that it is a pre-req for applying to become a BirthFit Regional Director, with my continued research of the content and the hands on learning that this course provided, I realized it was going to benefit more than just my DE Mommas and women in the gym. It will definitely help the guys become more efficient too.

So before I continue and jump ahead I will explain what Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) is: “DNS is based on the scientific principles of developmental kinesiology, for example the neurophysiological aspects of the maturing locomotor system.” – Rehabilitation Prague School. Long story short, “if our breathing is not “normalized” no other movement can be.” – Karel Lewit.

Now again, I’m sure you’re probably like, “duh Brina I knew that”, that’s why we as coaches have scaled options in our back pocket. But what happens when its not a strength problem, a lot of the time we try to correct pain/injury/dysfunction by “strengthening said area, or its surroundings” when really its either a postural, motor control, loading, bracing or a stabilization problem. Which is why certain movements, positions, and endurance can be challenging for us. Core Stability is not defined by ab, back, or any other muscle strength (no matter how good it looks) but by optimal Intra-Abdominal Pressure use.

There are a few different tests that we can perform to help us find out if we are distributing our breath and creating our IAP (Brace) efficiently. I’d love to set up a 1 on 1 and help see where we can better learn to stabilize and become more efficient in our movement patterns and enjoy Welded or any training method more efficiently and truly become better and heal injuries without causing or compensating in others areas.
